weblog: A history of Mimic

August Sat 08 2009

The most exciting thing about starting this new website, is that I have had the opportunity to go through my old personal website designs. The first domain that I had, I created a blog called “mimic”.

Some of the designs had a very floral and colourful theme. I really liked version 1, because the menu was done in Flash and the wasp moved about. It was cute.

And some of the designs were a little darker or they had a message. I created version 04 at around the same time as the world was becoming more and more concerned about terrorism. It had a surreal feel to it, but was simple in its execution.

Mimic was also my platform to start using Adobe Illustrator in a more serious way. The simple vector images I had created earlier weren’t exactly sophisticated, and versions 8 and 9 of mimic include some of my favourite vector image creations.

I enjoy being able to look back and see how much my style has changed. And also how much I’ve developed my skills. I also enjoy being able to reflect on how much my style hasn’t changed. I still enjoy using flowers and bright colours in designs, and two columns are almost always better than one!!
