An intermission

October Fri 16 2009

I haven’t posted in a while, because I’ve been swamped with uni work. Who knew that study via the Internet would be so time consuming! In any case, I have spent a little time going through old photos, and in the spare moments that I have I’ve been editing some photos.

This photo I haven’t edited, but thought I would share it because it makes me laugh. And then it makes me cringe a little because it’s a little freaky.

I took it when we were in New Zealand for our honeymoon. We had driven up the coast of the south island to get to Kaikoura and had made our way along a scenic road to a lookout point. The cows were in a field at the bottom of the lookout.

Cow at Kaikoura

I did feel worried as I took this photo, because I got the sense the cow wasn’t happy I was there!

A long weekend in Davao

October Tue 06 2009

I don’t use this website to write personal posts, but I had a fantastic weekend in Davao and wanted to share a few photos with you (out of the couple of hundred that were taken :) ).

Lechon Manok

Lechon Manok. This was “brunch”! We got up at around 5.30 to get to the airport and hadn’t had breakfast. So at 10.30 or so, we were driving around Davao deciding what to eat. Freshly cooked, we got to the restaurant when they were only up to heating up the coals!!

Pusit

I’m not a fan of seafood, but I truly enjoyed this Pusit. It had a really great citrus flavour, and when dipped in the soy, chili and calamansi sauce… YUM!

Pomelo

The Pomelo in Davao was amazing. I’ve never tasted such sweet and juicy Pomelo before. The memory is going to be stored away in my mind like the Pineapple from Thailand :)

The view from Pearl Farm

We didn’t stay there, but we did look around for a few hours. This is the view from one of the Pearl Farm beaches. It was a very idyllic spot, and while the accommodations weren’t as luxurious as we had expected the atmosphere was serene.

Bali Bali

This is the centre view of Bali Bali Beach Resort, where we stayed the night. Small, but sweet. The food here was amazing as well and the staff were very attentive.

Flying high

And finally, wistfully wishing we were still on the ground, flying out of Davao.

What an amazing weekend. We managed to avoid Typhoon Parma and the rainy weather in Manila, and spent an idyllic weekend away with beautiful weather and extremely tasty treats :)

Race to Freedom

October Fri 02 2009

Here is part two (part one here).

The overall feel is very disjointed. It slightly clashes, and nothing quite lines up properly. This is deliberate. “Race to Freedom” is indicative of the space I’m in right now. My life is in many parts “on hold” and it’s not quite connecting properly. So when I say race to freedom, I’m really saying “I’m” on my way, I’ve started the race but there is a way to go.

Race to Freedom

I think that the vector image finally came together. I could have invested a lot more time in shading and highlights, and detailing the muscles a little more, but I like the overall effect and given the time constraint… I used to spend days on vector artworks - Leo took hours and hours to put together – but I actually find it more challenging to get the effect you want with minimal detail. You have to pick your points far more precisely, and the impact of a shadow (for example) is much stronger with less detail.
