Wishful thinking

September Sat 04 2010

Mmm… each time I think I’ve moved on from wanting to pursue a career in design, I get a curve ball thrown at me.

I was asked the other day by one of the product managers at my work to help to create “battlecards” for the account managers to use when they are selling a new product. After spending half of the morning getting up to speed on the branding guidelines, out came Illustrator (I really regret not ever getting InDesign) and away I went… Loving each and every tedious part of aligning text, spacing out the page according to the grid and logo size, and selecting the “right” colours. Sigh.

So much more interesting than the Masters of Commerce degree I’m currently working my way towards. I look at the post graduate degrees some of my friends are doing in Fine Arts and Design, and I feel so envious. I spend my weekend with my head buried in books and articles about business strategy and the “global economy” and they get to paint, design products, and in general get their hands dirty.

Anyway… I must get back to writing my “short” essay on “an example of an area or areas in which your organisation is experiencing tensions and decision making challenges in relation to strategy”.

Boo :(

All tapped out

Where should I go to find inspiration when my brain is too tired to be inspired?

Ugh. I feel so tired right now, and I have a proposal to write for tomorrow to sell something I do not understand, with a scope that I’m struggling to define. Where did the colours go in my life?

A slow upgrade

May Sat 08 2010

I’ve started to put together the framework for a more “inclusive” website. Look forward to a wider variety of posts as time progresses!

My shoulder is killing me from all the mouse work (when I use programs such as Photoshop I tend to switch back to the right handed mouse rather than using my left handed Evoluent mouse) so it might be a week or so before I put any new images up on to this website, but I’m sure I can think of a few other things that I have been aching to blog about.

Please note this design has NOT been tested across multiple browsers!!

It looks best in Google Chrome and works passably in Internet Explorer 8. Internet Explorer 7 is a total bomb. Firefox has ceased to work on my laptop for some reason, so I’m unable to test it there – let me know how you go! And I no longer have a copy of Safari or Opera, so if you use either of those browsers your feedback is greatly appreciated.

I’m going to fix bugs slowly. This whole cross-browser thing is no longer an enjoyable challenge, so we’ll see how I go…

A change of seasons

April Mon 05 2010

Well, here is a new season. So to speak :) It’s not so much a change of literal seasons, but a change of perspective and point of view. So the main theme remains the same, but it’s brighter. There are overtones of the darkness of “winter”, but green is starting to shine through and wildlife is becoming abundant again.

Talk about a metaphor for my life right now! The move to KL was fantastically smooth, but the lead up was an absolute nightmare. A lot of personal issues got in the way, and I’m glad to be able to refocus and be able to get down to “business” again.

I’m off to Singapore this week and will hopefully be starting my new job very soon. I can’t wait for both :)

Take care, and let me know if you experience any issues with the new theme.

Hailing version 2

eeejay.net Version 1

Goodbye version 1. I’ve finally been able to spend some time cozying up to Illustrator, Photoshop, and WordPress, in order to come up with a new design. I’m thinking that over time I will add things to this particular design, so that by the time I’m ready to think about version 3 it will be vastly different.

The quotation down the bottom of the page is from the song “Shadowland“. Otherwise all drawn, designed, and coded by me.

So hello version 2. Please let me know if you experience any issues!
